Indonesian Garment Workers Rally at Nike Headquarters in Beaverton

This week, garment workers from Indonesia traveled to Beaverton, Oregon, to protest outside Nike’s global headquarters. Their goal was to urge the company to address concerns over wages and labor rights in its overseas supply chain.

The workers, Leni Oktira Sari, Dedhe Nurhasanah, and Dinar Swandi, are part of the “Fight the Heist” campaign, a multinational initiative supported by the Asia Floor Wage Alliance and Global Labor Justice. This campaign brings together garment workers from countries including Indonesia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.

During their visit, the workers were joined by U.S.-based labor allies, such as the Oregon Education Association, the University of Oregon Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation, and Jobs With Justice. Together, they delivered a letter to Nike CEO Elliott Hill, calling for improved wages and working conditions in the company’s supply chain.

The protest at Nike’s headquarters is part of a broader national tour aimed at raising awareness about labor conditions in Nike’s overseas factories. Following their stop in Oregon, the activists plan to continue their efforts in New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.

This demonstration highlights ongoing concerns regarding labor practices in the global apparel industry and underscores the demands for greater corporate accountability.
